Gary Ross provides strategic internal communications counsel during the most critical times for companies and their employees. M&A transactions, integrations, spinoffs, workforce reductions and labor issues can challenge employer-employee relationships at a time when worker engagement is vital. Gary has developed and executed programs that guide employees through change and secure their buy-in, thereby helping to preserve the value of strategic transactions, maintain service levels and mitigate any customer churn.
Most recently, as a consultant Gary has helped lead internal communications programs for two global M&A transactions. In 2011, he was appointed vice president of corporate communications for Fortune Brands Home & Security, the parent company of Moen, Master Lock and other familiar consumer brands, as it spun off from Fortune Brands, Inc. as an independent entity. He developed a new corporate-wide internal communications function for the company.
Prior to joining FBHS, Gary spent 11 years at CDW, a leading provider of technology products and services to business, government, education and healthcare. He led corporate communications at CDW, which included internal communications, corporate PR, marketing PR, and community relations. He also served as director of corporate public relations for Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Previously, Gary held a variety of public relations positions, including a post in the Department of University Relations at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
Before joining the PR profession, Gary worked as a reporter and substitute anchor for WCBD-TV in Charleston, S.C., where he was nominated for an Emmy Award in investigative journalism, traveled overseas with the U.S. military and reported from the eye of Category Four Hurricane Hugo. He began his career at the former WRKL-AM in the New York City area as an anchor and reporter.
Gary has been a guest speaker on communications issues and corporate social responsibility for such organizations as Northwestern University, DePaul University, The Conference Board, and the Great Place to Work Institute (authors of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list).
Gary is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society, a professional association of senior PR and communications leaders. He serves on the communications committee of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago. Gary also is the public address announcer for Northwestern University football and men’s basketball.
Gary holds a bachelor of science in journalism degree from the Medill School at Northwestern University.
