Jean Gonsoulin is seasoned communications strategist. With nearly 30 years in public relations, marketing and corporate communications split between the agency arena and the corporate sector, Jean brings a unique perspective to client service and a deep understanding of corporate challenges. Her experience crosses a wide range of industries and her expertise is drawn from counseling corporate leaders at some of the most dynamic companies in the world.
Among the practice areas in which she excels are strategic planning, message development and brand positioning, crisis and reputation management, stakeholder communications, and executive visibility. As president of The Gonsoulin Group, clients seek out her services because of an ability to take what they bring to the table and how they want to position themselves with stakeholders, and translate that into a cohesive, compelling communications blueprint with all the messaging and tools necessary to execute.
As a generalist, Jean has worked with clients across a broad spectrum of industries and organizations, representing the corporate, academic and non-profit sectors. In the corporate area, she has worked with leading companies in technology, energy, health care, real estate, financial services, legal and other professional services, telecommunications, manufacturing, and more. Her clients have included Farmers Insurance, Avery Dennison, Union Bank, Veolia Water, Edison International, Kaiser Permanente, Dole, Countrywide, ExxonMobil, Toyota, Kohl’s and BMC.
In the nonprofit world, she has worked with organizations from academia to government agencies to social impact organizations. Among those clients are Habitat for Humanity International, California Science Center, City of Hope, Points of Light Foundation, Saban Community Clinic, The Meth Project, American Red Cross, USC Health Sciences and Keck School of Medicine, MLSListings, Mills College, Institute on Aging, Contact Singapore, and the U.S. Chemical Safety & Hazard Investigation Board.
She has extensive experience in taking clients through the development of their message architecture and brand positioning statements that help them frame who they are as an organization and how they differentiate themselves in truly compelling ways. As part of this process, she also brings more than 25 years of experience training spokespersons and other communicators within an organization to deliver not only company information, but the key messages that are critical to understanding and acceptance. Among her areas of training skills specialization are presentations, media interviews, message delivery and coaching executives. In this capacity, she has worked with health care organizations, academic institutions, law firms, consumer products companies, energy companies, government entities, non-profits, celebrity spokespersons, and a host of other individuals and businesses.
A native of Texas, Jean was formerly an executive vice president at GolinHarris, where she managed the San Francisco office and led the West Coast Corporate Practice, as well as one of the agency’s largest clients, Kaiser Permanente. Prior to joining GolinHarris in 2005, she served as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Clear Channel Entertainment and oversaw a network of public relations leaders in the company’s six vertical lines of business. She joined Clear Channel Entertainment from her previous position as Vice President and Managing Director of the Houston office of Weber Shandwick where she led the corporate practice and business development of the agency.
She has served on the boards of directors for both the Houston and Los Angeles chapters of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). In 2015, she served as president of the Los Angeles chapter of PRSA. She also served on the board of Texas Public Relations Association and the Organization of Women Executives in Los Angeles.
