Kim Coutts is a Senior Partner who has more than 22 years of experience leading marketing and communications programs that increase awareness and organizational value while consistently supporting business objectives. Ms. Coutts is an experienced manager with outstanding written and verbal communications skills and a unique talent for uncovering, creating and sharing stories that inspire change, educate audiences and protect reputation. She is also an experienced issues manager and C-level business advisor with a successful track record of successfully launching new products for global companies, building brands, engaging audiences across traditional and social media platforms, cultivating thought leaders, growing profitable revenue and maintaining the value of corporate reputations during times of crisis.
As a senior vice president and partner at FleishmanHillard (FH), Ms. Coutts created integrated communications strategies and built strong teams for a diverse range of clients in the technology, financial services, consumer marketing and healthcare sectors. Ms. Coutts developed deep expertise in digital communications building and launching first-generation websites for established companies including Hallmark, Walmart and H&R Block.
A veteran high profile, high-stakes communications counselor, Ms. Coutts led the FH Visa Inc. external communications team as the company began building awareness of its transformation from a payment company to that of a technology leader to build value prior to its 2008 IPO – at the time the largest IPO in U.S. history. Across the subsequent years she continued in leadership roles on behalf of Visa for eight additional years focusing on programs that introduced debit cards to consumers, educated influencers on the value of Visa’s network infrastructure and working with foreign governments on travel spend forecasts and reporting. Ms. Coutts also led member communications programs focused on ensuring strong relationships with financial institutions and was responsible for executing a number of key stakeholder events for the company in Washington, D.C. – and internationally.
During her FH tenure Ms. Coutts also worked with Citibank’s healthcare payment and retail credit teams managing consumer credit issues, creating strategies to launch a new healthcare payment product and creating executive thought leadership programs around the company’s big data analytics. A creative storyteller with an ability to translate complex technical and regulatory issues into compelling narratives, Ms. Coutts also managed programs for a wide variety of technology clients including HP, Yahoo!, Kyocera Wireless and Kodak among many others.
Ms. Coutts also led the FH San Diego consumer marketing team creating strategies, conducting executive training and implementing integrated communications programs for clients, including Petco, Natural Balance Pet Foods, BumbleBee Foods, Hacienda Tres Rios (eco-tourism), Canadian Tourism Authority, Glacier Water (sustainability), Holiday Retirement (senior communities), Sickday Medical House Calls, and National Water and Power (energy billing).
She is also an experienced crisis counselor with experience across cruise ship disasters, food recalls, Department of Justice investigations, international travel safety, union labor issues, supply chain sourcing and pet health and wellness.
Before joining FH, Ms. Coutts was director of public relations for M/C/C, a Dallas-based public relations and marketing agency. At M/C/C, she managed a team of 22 employees in the development of marketing campaigns and media relations strategies for telecommunications, Internet and software companies including BellSouth.net, PrimeCo, IBM, Ericsson, PageMart (now Weblink Wireless) and SnapTrack (purchased by Qualcomm).
Ms. Coutts graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
